Lending a helping hand in Africa

You see the commercials on television but often times switch channels or don’t pay attention.  Africa seems to be another world away and it seems so unrealistic that you can actually help.  What would your one dollar do?  Hardly enough to make a difference right? Wrong. With more detail it is easier to see what these organizations do to help and how your help is actually beneficial.

Father‘s House International

Who are they?

Father’s House International provides children in Africa with basic accommodations to help them survive each day. Their staff is small and the founders pay for travel expenses out of their own pocket to ensure that every cent donated reaches the children.

Where do they work?

This organization works with the children in Ghana.

What programs or services do they provide?

Their “Sponsor a Child Africa” program is designed to use donations to provide care for the needs of the children living at the Father’s House in Ghana.  The basic needs are food and education.  They also try to provide accommodations such as clothes, hygiene products and pillows and blankets among other necesary items.

How can you help?

On average it takes 150 dollars a month to support a child in Ghana.  Father’s House International accepts donations of any size that go directly to the children.

Who are they?

The ASB Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that works internationally for humanitarian causes.  They focus on the growth and development of the children of lepers.

Where do they work?

They help those living in Koutal, Senegal.

What programs or services do they provide?

The ASB Foundation hosts an annual toy drive, provides educational seminars in the United States and allows for on-site volunteering opportunities.  To the children, they help provide toys, clothes and education.  Additionally, they try to provide access to health care for those who are sick.

If volunteering on-site is not an option for you at the moment, they do accept private donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.

Aid for Africa

Who are they?

Aid for Africa is an organization made up of about 85 different charities that are dedicated to helping and solving the complex challenges in Africa.

Where do they work?

The charities work throughout Sub-Saharan part of Africa.  It is the area of the continent that is located below the southern edge of the Sahara Desert.

What programs or services do they provide?

Aid for Africa has the Africa Girls Education Fund, a project that will help girls and young women get an education.  They also have the Africa Endowment for Food and Sustainable Agriculture Fund.  By providing book and introducing medical strategies to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, Aid for Africa step-by-step battles some of the major problems in Africa.  The education and resources help to make a better future for the children and community.
