Volunteering for children in need

With so many charities, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities, it is hard to decide which one is best to help with.  There is no right or wrong answer, just a personal preference.  Every volunteer organization needs help on a large or small scale.  Some people are more passionate about working with animals, others are more passionate about hands on opportunities such as Habitat for Humanity.  Another option is to work specifically with children.  There are several excellent organizations that are always looking for help, big or small, that provide special care or opportunities for young children.

One example is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  There they provide services for children and teenagers who are suffering from cancer.  St. Jude not only provides care, but also tries to find ways to treat what these kids are suffering from.  What is also special is that St. Jude provides these services for free.  Families do not have to pay for the treatment. Relying on volunteers and donations, St. Jude provides the best quality of service for its patients. It costs $1.8 million each day to run the hospital which are primarily covered by public contributions.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is also dedicated to helping the futures of children with life-threatening illnesses. In 1980, a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his desire was to become a police officer.  Since then, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide effort, reaching more than 250,000 children around the world.

Other opportunities include mentoring and teaching.  There are endless possibilities to extend your help.  There are also opportunities such as helping the children in Africa; either hands on or sending donations.
