Be proactive

During your internship, it’s important to understand the work culture and know what’s expected of employees who work in the company. Stay proactive and ask co-workers what you can do to help them. Speak up about what you want to be involved in to your supervisor. Your suggestions and ideas are important to your employer. If there is a project that interests you, volunteer to help. It not only keeps you busy and learning, but you teach yourself how to be helpful around the office.

Be sure to ask lots of questions

Don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need to. It’s always better to ask how to do something instead of doing it wrong. Internships were designed for interns to learn and take in during the time they have working for the company. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice from colleagues, your supervisor, and others outside work. Also if you can, ask for honest feedback of your work from your colleagues and supervisor. You will have more chances to correct and improve your work.

Be responsible

If you want to be a proactive intern, make sure that you have responsibility for ensuring your work is completed successfully. Also, arrive to work on time and try to show you have a strong work ethic and use your time efficiently.

Meet your co-workers

During your internship, you will spend a lot of time with your co-workers. Once you've completed a task, try to ask others for what areas they see for improvement. They can help you pinpoint areas where you can grow new skills. Make an effort to get to know them. Also, don’t forget about the networking opportunities.
