Benedictine College

Benedictine College

Atchison, KS

Alexander Koch, or Zander, graduated in May 2012 from Benedictine.  He majored in Physical Education with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning.

What was your first day like?

"It was not what I expected. For the first week we had to wear beanies so that we let other people know we were freshmen. I didn't really know a lot of people before I got down to Benedictine so I just did my own thing the first day. Then after that I gradually started making friends."

How did you adjust from high school to college?

"It was tough at first but, once I started making friends it wasn't that hard to adjust because I wasn't thinking of home that much. Also once class work started to pick up that helped too."

Why did you choose Benedictine College?

"I ended up choosing Benedictine because, I actually started off as an Athletic Training major and Benedictine was one of the best places for that. Also my cousin went there before me so when I went for her graduation I was impressed. After that I came for a visit and was sold on it."

What is your favorite part about Benedictine?

"I like the size and that it's not too far away from home. It's not too big either, so it is really easy to make friends and find someone to hangout with and study with if you need it. Also being a Catholic college it helps me grow in my faith."

What advice do you have for incoming freshmen?

"Some advice that I would have to incoming freshmen would be to get involved with a lot of things during your freshmen year. Benedictine has a lot of clubs and things to get involved in and that also helps with adjusting to your first year of college."
