How to use YouTube to get a job

YouTube has been a source of entertainment since 2005, bringing millions of users laughs, tears and some even to fame.  Not only can users get a good laugh or see the newest music video, but YouTube can also help users find jobs.  Aside from posting videos of yourself to gain attention, there are ways to utilize YouTube to your advantage when searching for a job.

  • "How to" videos

YouTube has several videos on "how to" write a resume, write a cover letter, prepare for an interview, dress for an interview, and the list goes on.  YouTube provides a visual explanation for users and job seekers.

  • Explanation videos

YouTube also has videos to explain unclear terms or situations when it comes to finding jobs.  For example, there are videos to describe employment discrimination or self-employment taxes.

  • Informational videos

YouTube provides videos from lectures, meetings or other events that help to explain a specific subject.  TEDTalks is an example of a channel you can tune into to gain more knowledge about certain topics.

These are just a few examples as to how YouTube will help you in your job search.  Adding a visual component often helps to tie whole concepts together. Sometimes it is easier to see and to be shown how to do something and then try to do it on your own.  For those of you who have been out of school for a while or do not have the resources available for job information, YouTube provides you with knowledge and tips on a variety of topics to help you improve your resume or help you in your next job search.
